Refugee Sponsorship Update
Source: Toronto Star
You astound me.
Astound. adjective: capable of overwhelming with amazement; stunningly surprising.
I shouldn’t be surprised because I have seen your radical generosity before. Yet I am, not because of how much you are giving. What astounds me is your sheer willingness to sacrifice for others so unanimously across all our sites.
I delight every time I think of you and how you carry on without need for acclamation. You have buried yourselves in the work required to prepare for 40 refugees to arrive from various places around the world and call Canada home. The teamwork, resource mobilization, and diligently spent volunteer hours from fundraising to apartment searching and furnishing has not gone unnoticed.
While we, The Meeting House community, participate in many equally great initiatives today we pause to recognize you - those who chose to sponsor a refugee family. It is a huge commitment that comes in addition to continuing the annual support for our other charitable partners.
In November we rallied to support your fundraising goals, encouraged by your willingness to give so much, just as Jesus did. Yet despite all this, we knew the real test would come when the families arrived. Today, many of the families are here and you have responded by welcoming them into your lives.
Last week The Toronto Star observed what you and countless other Canadians are doing – and the tremendous impact that resulted in the life of one young new Canadian. (You can read the entire article here).
We are honoured to encourage and cheer you on as we see God’s love active in each of you.
