    Purposeful Proximity

    Purposeful Proximity

I want to start us off here with a question — reflecting on your spiritual journey, what has been most impactful in helping you become more like Jesus?  Has it been the teachings you’re following?  Reading the Bible?  Praying?  Studying?  I think we can all agree these are integral aspects of our discipleship process but … are they the most important?

When I look back at the things that have shaped me in my walk with Jesus,...

    Ordinary Peace

    Belfast Peace Wall

This past July I crossed the Atlantic Ocean for a close up look at the work of peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.  As a follower of Jesus, pursuing peace is an important part of my faith and I wanted a chance to promote peace in a practical way. Going to Northern Ireland, I harboured a secret hope for dramatic confrontations, persuasive arguments, and eloquent debates; work replete with glamour, risk, tension, and dare I say, even danger.

    Instead, much to my surprise,...

Downtown Hamilton. What do those words mean to you?

    Downtown Hamilton

When I moved here 6 years ago, Hamilton was explained in two ways: Mountain and Downtown.

Both were very clear & both very different. At times, when downtown Hamilton was mentioned, it was with a shudder; an inherent fear because, after all, it’s downtown, its messy, it’s urban-busy-industrial-cramped-congested-risky- too many people, and for some it’s just too much to think about.

Then, years ago at our sites in West Hamilton & East Hamilton,...

International Day of Peace: A Reflection

    Peace

Today is the International Day of Peace. I’m so thankful that today is dedicated to celebrating this universal value. We would all benefit from seeing more of it in our lives.

I can’t help but think about how I am promoting peace in my everyday life. Is my desire to live peacefully evident in my life or do my waking hours contribute to conflict and struggle?  What do I spend my time dwelling on?  Do I focus on how I’ve been done wrong by or how we can all use...

8 Reasons to Download the NEW Meeting House App

    New App Promo

Sure our old app was great and served us faithfully—see what I did there with that adverb… because we’re a church and all and… oh never mind— and I know change might be harder for some than others, but I’ve got eight reasons as to why you should take the plunge and download our new app.

    1. Do you have a BlackBerry? Because our new app is available on BlackBerry World, and you can now join the fun. Sorry we left you out with the old app!

    CHOOSE PEACE: International Peace Day

UN International Peace DayMonday September 21 st is International Day of Peace.  What a beautiful thing!  A day dedicated to remember what it means to put our differences aside and give of ourselves for the betterment of others.  This year’s theme is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All”.

This week I have been thinking of the many ways The Meeting House community is actively engaging in peace.  We support global programs through MCC in Southern...

    It Begins With Trust

    Fall Kickoff

We are finally into Fall Kickoff mode here at The Meeting House, and so many great things are underway across all of our sites this month.  One of the things I am most excited about is our new teaching series The Fellowship of the King.  As a church, we have spent a lot of time over the past few months talking about discipleship, and I’m excited about digging into discipleship and what it means for us to live as disciples of Jesus over the next five weeks.

    When...

The Refugee Crisis: They have faces and names too.

Each year millions of people are forced to flee their home in a desperate attempt to escape persecution, war and human rights abuse.   They do not choose to leave their country.  A refugee is forced to flee.

This is   not  just  about the 4 million registered Syrian refugees.

It is  also about the 7 million Internally Displaced People in Syria.

It is  about neighbouring countries, communities, and families hosting...

    Stubbornness and the Burning Bush

    Moses Blog Melissa

One of the words I’ve often described myself as is: stubborn!  Hmmm... maybe tenacious has a better ring to it … regardless, when I have my mind set on something, it’s hard to persuade me otherwise.  It’s a quality that has done me well over the years but also something I believe has led me to miss out on some pretty awesome opportunities!

When I read the story of Moses & the burning bush, I’m confronted by how often I’ve “pulled...

    Blog Post: Humility & Grace

    ALT Laura Blog Post Chamba

It could have been a Coke Cola commercial. They brought a red case of the bottled drink in the simply constructed church from the dusty road, not a house in sight.  One by one the lids were popped off and we were each handed a bottle of the cool liquid. Refreshed, the energy in the conversation rises as we engage more than before.  Our smiles are wider, actions more exaggerated and stories told better.  Although the room is empty apart from a single table, some benches,...
